A Book About Her

A documentative blog about the creation of the kids book "Love, Always" that me and my siblings made about our mother, Aixa Perez-Prado's, immigration story.

Part Four: Mima

In 2014 my grandmother, Beatriz Grisolia, passed away.
An incredibly strong woman, a survivor of breast cancer, an accomplished doctor, a mother and grandmother who left an irreplaceable hole in our family.
Before we knew it, 2024 was on our doorstep, and we knew it would mark 10 years without her.
My siblings had been thinking about what to get our mother for her birthday. We knew that as a professor, artist, and kids book writer she would rather we make something. So we tried to think of something we were missing, but we knew we could never replace the woman we called Mima.
Instead we came up with an idea.
Something that would use all our family photos, albums, memories, and grief to make.
A kids book about our mother’s immigration story, told from the perspective of Mima, our grandmother.
Her Mama.
